Backyard BBQ Contest

The Rules

  1. Barbecue is defined as products prepared on wood, gas, or charcoal fire. (no electricity)
  2. This contest is open to men and women, amateur and professional cooks.
  3. Contestants may arrive after 6:00 a.m. through Gate #2 to unload.  No vehicles will be allowed through the gate after 9:00 a.m. ALL CONTESTANTS MUST PAY REGULAR GATE ADMISSION TO ENTER THE GROUNDS ($20) or be season ticket holders.
  4. Contestant meeting at 9:00 a.m. COOKS MUST ATTEND.
  5. All meat must be inspected by BBQ chairman before cooking may begin.
  6. The first turn in time will be 2 p.m. Turn in order will be announced day of contest.  Awards will be presented upon completion of judging.  Each contestant should cook enough BBQ in each category for 6 judges and a dish to share with other contestants.
  7. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third, place in each category.  There are three coveted awards given yearly.  The Showmanship Award is given based on the highest total presentation scores in 3 separate categories. The Master Chef award is given to the contestant with the highest total cumulative points in 3 categories.  The Sportsmanship Award is voted on by fellow contestants.
  8. CATEGORIES:  A. Beef, any cut may be used.; B. Pork, fresh and non-cured; C. chicken; D. Harry Kerpash’s Spare Ribs as the name says, spare ribs only, ($50 added to first place spare ribs in memory of Harry)
    E. Exotic; Each contestant is allowed to enter up to 3 categories.  Judges score each item according to taste, texture, and appearance.
  9. JACKPOT CLASSES: 2 categories, entry fee is $10 per category, winner takes all.  Brat, turn in time 12:000 p.m., your best brat will be judged according to appearance prior to being cut and tested for taste and texture.  Anything But, turn in time 12:20 p.m., your best appetizer, side dish, or dessert cooked on the grill will be judge according to taste, texture, and appearance.  Jackpot classes do not count towards Showmanship or Master Chef.  Entries are accepted the day of the contest.  Each category has a $10 entry fee.  Make checks payable to the Lincoln County Fair.
